Headsails and Asymmetric Spinnakers are categorized according to the ratio (percentage) of their spinnaker half width (SHW) to their foot length (SFL). SHW is not the same measurement as headsail half width (HHW). SHW is the distance between the midpoints of the luff and leech. HHW is the distance from the leech midpoint to the perpendicular (nearest) point on the luff. These measurements are easily confused.
Standard Sails
For each of the standard sail types, you must declare the largest sail carried while racing.
For a mizzensail, use the mainsail form. Staysails are not declared unless their LP overlap extends beyond the headsail LP.
Specialty Sails
These sails are designed for a limited range of conditions and must be declared separately from the standard sails.
