Offshore Racing Association Launches Revamped Website to Streamline ORR and EZ Racing Rule Access

March 20, 2025

The Offshore Racing Association (ORA) is excited to announce the launch of its newly revamped website, offshoreracingrule.org. Designed as a one-stop resource for sailors, industry professionals, and race organizers, the site provides comprehensive tools and easy navigation for learning about and obtaining Offshore Racing Rule (ORR) and EZ Racing Rule (EZ) certificates.

“Our goal was to create a single, streamlined platform where sailors and race organizers can find everything they need with as few clicks as possible,” said Sheila McCurdy, ORA Board Chair. “From accessing the Valid Certificate List for ORR to navigating the ORR certificate issuing portal managed by the Offshore Office at US Sailing, this site should be the starting point for all sailors looking to race under ORR and EZ.”

The ORR section of the site offers:

  • A direct link to the Valid Certificate List for ORR
  • Easy access to issuing ORR certificates via US Sailing
  • The latest ORR Rule Book for reference
  • Performance Packages that provide sailors with competitive insights to maximize speed and efficiency on the water

On the EZ Racing Rule side, the new site caters to sailors who believe modern rating rules should be based on sophisticated algorithms. The site features:

  • Direct links to the Valid and OD Certificate Lists for EZ
  • Seamless access to the EZ certificate issuing portal
  • Information on the different scoring methods available under EZ
  • Resources for race organizers interested in using a more advanced rating rule compared to traditional PHRF

“The EZ Racing Rule is extremely versatile,” McCurdy added. “Depending on the scoring method used, EZ can be as simple as legacy PHRF or as complex as the latest forecast-based systems. Fleets and organizers can easily tailor the rule to their needs. This is actually our fastest-growing part of the ORA.”

The revamped website also includes new tools for race organizers to better understand rating rules, particularly the expanding EZ system. Additionally, updated rule books for both ORR and EZ are now available for download.

“With the racing season approaching, we encourage sailors to review the rules and apply for their certificates early,” McCurdy emphasized. “This will allow rating officials to address any questions in a timely manner.”

Both rating rules offer sailors Performance Packages, providing practical guides that help competitors optimize their sailing angles and speeds to gain an edge on the racecourse. Sailors can learn more and apply for these packages directly through the new website.
