Pyewacket owned by Roy P. Disney takes top honor in Offshore Racing Rule West Coast Series for third year in a row.

November 24, 2015 NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Offshore Racing Association (ORA) announced the winners of the 2015 Offshore Racing Rule (ORR) West Coast Championship Series – Southern Division. Taking first place was Pyewacket owned by Roy P. Disney, an Andrews 70.  This year’s winning boats raced in conditions from light to heavy winds as well as both close-course and ocean racing events.  Over 25 boats qualified for scoring in the Southern Division of the 2015 West Coast Championship Series.

Southern Series

First Place:  Pyewacket - USA 678 - owned by Roy P. Disney

Second Place:  Grand Illusion - USA 97 - owned by Edward McDowell

Third Place:  Bolt - USA 28385 - owned by Craig Reynolds

The top three finishers of the 2015 Series are a combination of past winners and a first-time top three finisher.  This is the third time for Grand Illusion being in the top three and the third time for Pyewacket winning firsts in 2013 and 2014.  “I have always really enjoyed racing under the ORR because it is, without doubt, the fairest measurement rule out there,” stated Disney after hearing of his 1st place finish.

The West Coast Championship Series began in 2013.  The 2015 Southern Series included:   Island Race, Corum Cup, NHYC Cabo Race, Newport to Ensenada Race, Transpac Race and the Long Point Race Week.  Races that are included in the Championship Series are not required to run under ORR by race as boats are re-scored as long as they hold a valid ORR certificate. This allows for a much more inclusive format for cruiser-racers to participate in a fair format.  Winners will receive custom brag flags and engraved award plates.
